Constitution of food
The constitution of a food means its effect in the healthy
body. Every food or drug produces certain perceptible and
non-perceptible symptoms when the same is administered
in various concentrations.
Moderate: When a drug or food is consumed in a certain
quantity and after its assimilation, one does not notice any
effect or change in his body.
Hot, dry, cold or wet: The food produces
a slight effect of heat, or cold or dryness and the same passes
off without leaving any feeling after 4 hours is considered
first degree (1)
If the effect is slightly more and remains in the body for
more than 8 hours and does not harm the body, is known
to be having 2degrees constitution.
If the effect of the given substance produces a remarkable
but tolerable effect that remains in the system for more than
18 hours but does not endanger one's life is considered as
3 degree constitution group.
Lastly, if the consumed substance produces intense effect
immediately after half to one hour and endangers one's life
is known as having 4 degree constitution.
All foods and drugs in their proper doses produce an effect
according to their constitutions between 1 and 3 degrees having
a combined effect such as :cold and wet, cold and dry, hot
and dry and hot and wet. All poisons are in 4 degree constitution
with hot and dry effect. The intensity of the foods or drugs
depends on one's own constitution having normal health.
Depending upon the condition of the body, one should take
that food which helps improve the health condition.
For example, if a person is having fever or the body is producing
heat more, that person has to take food which is cold and
wet and with 1degree constitution. If a person is dull
and lack interest in any activity, he should be given food
which is hot and so on.
